Printing
Options for Duplicated CD-Rs and DVD-Rs
We have many print options available. If you add up all the combinations of discs and print modes you will find there are tens of thousands of possible combinations. Some people want quick single-use promo copies today, and others want a permanent silkscreen and don't mind waiting 5 more days. Here is a description of the different options.
- Inkjet:
We can print high-quality images in black or full-color using special discs
and inkjet technology. The print quality is very high. We have many inkjet disc options:
- Standard white production disc, good for economic text&logo and graphics
- Falcon Pro white disc with superior print quality, 40 to 100 year expected lifespan of recorded data
- Taiyo Yuden / JVC / now called CMC PRO available by special request
- Glossy white (low cost generic manufacturer, glossy finish and water resistance)
- Silver, hub printable (Falcon)
- White glossy Falcon Smart Guard (Best print surface, waterproof, long life)
- Silver glossy Falcon Smart Guard (wow! really amazing effect)
- CD-R with diamond (silver) bottom colour (looks like a pressed CD)
- Vinyl CD-R
- Automated Inkjet printing options:
- Text and logo is ideal for low cost, fast turnaround, and large volumes. We can do thousands per day.
- Full-colour graphics mode is ideal for complete graphic coverage where speed and low cost are the main concerns. The print quality is good and you will save money. Heavy ink densities are reduced to allow high-speed production.
- Photo Best: full-colour printing in slow print mode, allows heavy ink coverage and better resolution.
- Epson 6 Colour Photo: Super-high-resolution printing reduces the visibility of the ink dots. Great print quality. Gives stunning results with glossy Falcon Smart Guard discs.
- Full colour fast draft is for low cost and fast turn. There will be visible banding and poor registration in the printed image. If you need 500 low-cost promos in 1 day this could be an option.
- SAMPLES: Print samples with your artwork printed in the different modes are available for $30
- Direct thermal
printing:
Thermal printing prints directly onto the plain CD-R surface. This technology
is best for printing text and simple logos in 1 color (black, red, blue, or
green). The printing area is 38mm to 114mm diameter.
- Thermal transfer photo quality
This process transfers a photo image onto a transfer roll which is then laminated to the disc. It offers high perceived quality but also high cost. Most clients choose inkjet for low cost and fast turntime, or silkscreen for a true permanent image. The main use of thermal printing is in video post production or other small-run niches where a very limited number of copies need to be made NOW, and clients don't mind spending $8 per disc. In the thermal category there are again several options, the most common of which is Everest CMY printing. Note this is only 3 colour printing and lacks a true black. For true photo reproduction a more expensive and slower 4-colour setup is required. Thermal transfer printers also need a special type of disc with a visible orange-peel texture. The main market for this product is for 1 to 10 copies at $5+ each.
- Paper
labels:
Paper labels are not used very often. We recommend to print directly onto the disc instead of applying paper labels. Paper labels tend to peel over time and to cause balance issues in highspeed computer drives.
- Silkscreen
with solid colors:
This is how most commercial CDs are printed. Vibrant inks are silkscreened
directly onto the disc. The disadvantage of this service is that films and screens must
be prepared and the silkscreening will take several days. Your artwork is
best prepared in Illustrator or Corel Draw using the Pantone Solid PMS color
palette (ex: PMS Red 032, Blue 072 CVC, etc...). 1 and 2 colour silkscreen is a good value for quantities over 250 discs and 5+ day turntime.
- CMYK
silkscreen:
We can print full-color CMYK images directly onto your CD-Rs, DVD-Rs, or Blu-ray BD-Rs. It is important to understand that the silkscreen process will change the contrast of your image.Silkscreen is best for solid colours, and not photos or gradients. CMYK silkscreen is a good value for quantities over 1000 discs.
- CMYK Offset
Offset print is called for where large quantities of discs need to be printed with a photo image. This service is offered on a custom-quote basis, so please contact us for this service.
